Pierre Jannin is a senior INSERM researcher. From 2012 January, he is responsible of the new Inserm Research group MediCIS (Modeling Surgical Knowledge and Processes). He was awarded the PhD degree from the University of Rennes in 1988 on multimodal 3D imaging in neurosurgery. He was awarded the Habilitation in 2005 on Information guided Surgery. He was associate member of the ICCAS research institute in Leipzig (Germany), from 2005 to 2009. He was visiting professor at the Montreal Neurological Institute at McGill University in Montréal (Canada) from July 2009 to July 2010. He was Visiting Professor (JSPS fellowship) at the CAMIT institute, Kyushu University, Japan, from June to August 2013. He is the General Secretary of the International Society of Computer Aided Surgery (ISCAS). He is senior member of the SPIE society. He is Deputy Editor for the International Journal of Computer Assisted Radiology and Surgery (IJCARS). He is acted as associate editor and reviewer for several journals (e.g., IEEE TITB, IEEE EMB, IEEE TMI, MedIA, IEEE TNS, Neuroimage) and international conferences (e.g., CARS, MICCAI, IPCAI, SPIE, ACCV, ISBI, MMVR). He is member of several Organizing and Program Committees of international conferences, such as congress organizing committee of CARS, program committee of SPIE Medical Imaging, organizing committee of MMVR, and program committee of MICCAI. He is Co-General Chair of IPCAI 2010, 2012, 2013 conferences. He was Co-chair of the 2013 MICCAI workshop and tutorial committee.

Research areas

dbsa.jpg He has more than 20 years experience in designing and developing image guided surgery systems for neurosurgery, from stereotactic frame based applications to neuronavigation. The clinical applications he fully or partially developed were or are still used in clinical routine in the Neurosurgery department of Rennes's hospital: frame based stereotactic biopsies using 3D CT and MR since 1994 and with Neuromate robot since 1997, MR and 3D Angiography SEEG depth electrodes implantation since 1998, multimodal neuronavigation since 1999. His research topics include image guided surgery, multimodal imaging data fusion, augmented reality, modeling of surgical procedures and processes, study of surgical expertise, and validation in medical image processing and in image guided surgery. The main clinical application areas concern functional neurosurgery and surgery of low grade tumors in central areas. He authored or co authored more than 40 peer-reviewed international journal papers and more than 50 international conferences long papers.
