Background and Position

Cédric PENET has been a Postdoctoral fellow in the MediCIS team of the LTSI since January 2014. He is currently working on Surgical Process Modelling.

Prior to being a Postdoctoral fellow, Cédric PENET obtained in 2010 an engineering master's degree from the National Institute of Applied Sciences of Rennes (INSA) in the field of Communication Systems and Networks. During his master's degree, he spent 6 month at the University of Adelaide, Australia, from July to December 2009. He then undertook a Ph.D. thesis at Technicolor Cesson-Sévigné, France, in partnership with the TEXMEX team of INRIA, which he defended in October 2013. His Ph.D. thesis advisors were Claire-Hélène DEMARTY (Technicolor), Guillaume GRAVIER (CNRS/IRISA) and Patrick GROS (INRIA). His work was focused on detecting violent scenes in movies. He has contributions in audio events detection such as gunshots and explosions, multimodal violent scenes detection using both audio and video, and he is one of the orginal co-organiser of the Violent Scenes Detection task of the MediaEval Benchmark campaign, which specifically aims at detecting violent scenes in Hollywood movies.

Research areas

dbsa.jpg He has more than 20 years experience in designing and developing image guided surgery systems for neurosurgery, from stereotactic frame based applications to neuronavigation. The clinical applications he fully or partially developed were or are still used in clinical routine in the Neurosurgery department of Rennes's hospital: frame based stereotactic biopsies using 3D CT and MR since 1994 and with Neuromate robot since 1997, MR and 3D Angiography SEEG depth electrodes implantation since 1998, multimodal neuronavigation since 1999. His research topics include image guided surgery, multimodal imaging data fusion, augmented reality, modeling of surgical procedures and processes, study of surgical expertise, and validation in medical image processing and in image guided surgery. The main clinical application areas concern functional neurosurgery and surgery of low grade tumors in central areas. He authored or co authored more than 40 peer-reviewed international journal papers and more than 50 international conferences long papers.
